The Los Angeles Film Critics Association awarded One Battle After Another as the best picture during its voting on Sunday, recognizing this year’s top films, performances, and technical contributions.
The Secret Agent came in second and also received the award for the best film not in the English language.
Paul Thomas Anderson was honored as best director for One Battle After Another, with Ryan Coogler as the runner-up for Sinners.
In the lead performance categories, Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne won for Blue Moon and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, respectively. For supporting roles, Stellan Skarsgård and Teyana Taylor were awarded for Sentimental Value and One Battle After Another, respectively.
Best cinematography was revealed first, with Adolpho Veloso winning for Train Dreams. Hannah Beachler was recognized for best production design for Sinners, while Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie took home the award for best editing for Marty Supreme.
The award for best animated feature went to Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, with KPop Demon Hunters as the runner-up. Additionally, a Special Citation was announced for Judy Kim of Gardena Cinema, noted for its historical significance and community role since 1976.
Earlier, the association had revealed that Philip Kaufman would receive this year’s Career Achievement Award. LAFCA president Robert Abele praised Kaufman as a versatile and groundbreaking director whose contributions have profoundly influenced American cinema.
