Exciting Partnership Renewal
A fascinating start-up in the sports industry is extending its long-term partnership with its first major professional sports league.
Innovative NBA Experience
The NBA and Cosm, the entertainment company redefining sports bars with their concept of “shared reality,” announced on Thursday an extension of their collaboration to broadcast live NBA games in Cosm’s innovative venues. The experience features IMAX-like 87-foot-diameter LED screens that offer a unique viewing experience for fans.
Cultural Impact and Growth
Cosm originally partnered with the NBA before opening its first location in Los Angeles in 2024. Now, the two are set to continue their collaboration through 2030 and beyond.
Expanding Fan Access
Jeb Terry, Cosm’s president and CEO, expressed in a CNN Sports interview their goal of providing alternative viewing options for fans who may not be able to attend games in person. He noted that this approach aligns well with the NBA’s mission to enhance access and celebrate the game.
Production and Distribution Agreement
The renewed partnership permits Cosm to produce and distribute live NBA games across its venues for a minimum of the next five years. This will allow them to bring unique views to national TV audiences, covering significant events like the All-Star Weekend and the playoffs.
Strategic Partnership Framework
Teddy Kaplan, NBA’s VP and head of new media partnerships, emphasized the synergy between the NBA and Cosm from the outset. He had a pivotal meeting with Cosm’s team in 2022, where the innovative concept wowed him.
Future Expansion Plans
Cosm is currently focused on expanding its footprint, having launched venues in Inglewood and Dallas, with additional locations planned in Detroit, Cleveland, and Atlanta. This expansion aims to enhance accessibility to NBA games for fans domestically and potentially internationally at a lower cost compared to traveling to an arena.
