[This article contains significant spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, titled “Full Circle.”]
Yellowjackets has introduced a new lethal pair.
The third season culminated in a violent finale that provided shocking answers to key mysteries of the series, including who is Pit Girl? and the pressing question of the season, who killed Lottie?. These revelations hinted that Shauna (played by Melanie Lynskey in present-day and Sophie Nélisse in flashbacks) may have reaped the consequences of her friends’ emerging plots against her.
The flashback sequences clarified that the character who brutally died in the pilot was Mari (Alexa Barajas), whose hunting fate was triggered by Shauna (Nélisse). In the modern timeline, Shauna’s daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), was revealed as the murderer of Lottie (Simone Kessell). Additionally, survivor Van (Lauren Ambrose) met her end due to a knife wound from Adult Melissa (Hilary Swank) following an intense confrontation with Shauna (Lynskey).
These mounting connections to Shauna were recognized by Tawny Cypress‘s Tai, who met Christina Ricci‘s Misty at a diner after the finale and plotted against their friend Shauna. Tai expressed, “It’s Shauna’s fault that Van is dead… She thrived on it. I can’t ignore that anymore.”
In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Cypress and Ricci reflected on this closure and its implications for the series moving forward as they eagerly await confirmation for a fourth season. They also shared insights regarding their characters, as Cypress deepens her portrayal of Tai’s complex psyche and Ricci discusses surprising moments from season three, like the shocking heart-eating scene.
