Xabi Alonso’s Ambitious Plans for Liverpool
Liverpool’s prospective managerial candidate, Xabi Alonso, has shared his ambitious vision to recruit four top-tier players this summer if he replaces Arne Slot as head coach. Reports from Spain indicate that five prominent Liverpool players could be leaving the club.
The Reds’ title defense has faltered, currently placing them 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal, raising significant concerns about Slot’s future. Following a hefty £440m (€505m, $600m) spending spree last summer to enhance their squad, the fight for a top-four finish has intensified scrutiny on Slot’s management.
In light of recent developments, it has been reported that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is considering a managerial change. Sources confirm that Liverpool has initiated discussions with Xabi Alonso, who recently parted ways with Real Madrid.
With Slot’s tenure appearing increasingly unstable, speculation grows around what Alonso’s Liverpool might resemble. According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alonso intends to clear the roster by selling five key players to generate funds and space for a large-scale summer rebuild.
Among those reportedly on the chopping block are Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch, with Konate likely leaving as a free agent. Additionally, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo could also be offloaded, while the most notable departure may be Mohamed Salah, who is expected to be sold with just a year remaining on his contract.
Alonso aims to use the funds gained from these sales to acquire four world-class talents, with Liverpool targeting Micky van de Ven, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola, and Adam Wharton, potentially costing the club around £380m (€440m, $520m).
Outlook for Arne Slot
As for Arne Slot, his position appears tenuous, with reports suggesting that the club is unlikely to make a mid-season managerial change, focusing instead on a summer transition to minimize disruption during the current campaign.
