Now that the 2025 NFL Draft has concluded, it’s time to delve into film analysis of the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie lineup. I’ll be reviewing all 10 draft selections along with some undrafted free agents in the coming weeks. Since many scouting reports tend to echo similar sentiments, I’ve included film clips to substantiate my points and will discuss how each player fits with the Eagles later on. While I acquired All22 footage for several rookies, I can’t share those clips on my Twitter accounts without risk of being blocked, so I’ve sourced alternative clips for this analysis. Let’s jump in!
You can check out my podcast feed here for more insights. Additionally, I have a Patreon linked to my podcast for those who wish to support my work further. Since I can’t share All22 footage on Twitter, I’m hosting watch-alongs for every Eagles rookie on my Patreon, which is exciting!
Strengths
+ Powell-Ryland has demonstrated remarkable productivity as a pass rusher for a late day 3 selection, racking up 25.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss in just 24 starts. His performance is no accident; he knows how to pursue and finish at quarterback effectively, evidenced by plentiful good film.
+ He is an exceptional athlete, showing impressive speed and explosiveness, although we lack precise agility metrics.
+ His array of pass-rushing techniques is diverse, with a standout spin move that showcases his impressive hand usage, enabling him to generate pressure consistently.
+ With his natural bend and relatively lightweight build, he can maneuver around edges and turn tight corners without difficulty.
Weaknesses
– He stands out as undersized for an NFL EDGE and possesses short arms, which is noteworthy despite the Eagles’ recent tendencies to overlook size.
– Although he employs various pass-rushing techniques, he often lacks explosiveness; his success relies heavily on technique. The question remains whether he can maintain effectiveness against stronger competition.
– His run-stop rate was notably low last season (5.4%), and a high missed tackle rate (19.1%) raises concerns. His capability to set the edge is a crucial area for improvement, particularly against tight ends and large offensive linemen.
Overall Evaluation
While I aim for objectivity in analyzing the Eagles’ draft picks, I can’t help but feel optimistic about their day 3 selections. Overall, Antwaun Powell-Ryland stands out as a high-energy pass rusher who showcased stellar production in college, albeit with less-than-ideal physical attributes. He brings various pass-rushing techniques and a commendable work ethic to the table, which may limit him to specialized roles due to his challenges against the run.
That’s a wrap on my analysis of the 2025 Eagles’ draft picks! I will shift my focus to reviewing the 2024 Eagles draft class next. If you have any topics you’d like me to cover during the offseason, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
