Apple has revealed a significant change in its strategy for the enterprise sector. Starting April 14, the company will consolidate all its business and enterprise tools into one comprehensive platform called Apple Business. For years, Apple’s business tools were dispersed across various services—Apple Business Manager for deployments, Apple Business Essentials for small business device management, and Apple Business Connect for managing brand visibility on Maps and other platforms. However, on April 14, all these functions will be consolidated into a single, streamlined platform. Existing users and their data will automatically transition to the new unified Apple Business system, which encompasses four key areas: device management, people management, brand management, and support. Administrators can now manage everything from a single interface.
Device and People Management
With the integration of device management into the free Apple Business platform, Apple emphasizes the necessity for businesses to manage their devices effectively. It now introduces “Blueprints” for easily setting up devices with preconfigured settings directly out of the box. Additionally, this update enhances the way IT teams handle roles and directories. Apple is introducing new custom roles for detailed control over device assignments and app management, without granting full administrator privileges. Moreover, the Admin API is being expanded to facilitate custom reporting.
Brand Management
Apple is empowering businesses to maintain a consistent branding experience across its ecosystem. This includes personalized Tap to Pay branding on iPhone screens and managed Maps listings. IT and marketing teams can collaborate in one portal, ensuring that customer interactions with payment or Maps reflect the brand’s identity. Furthermore, Apple offers insights into customer engagement across these channels.
9to5Mac’s Perspective
This announcement is a significant advancement for Apple in aiding customers with hardware use. Streamlining the portal experience while eliminating the monthly fee for basic device management significantly reduces barriers for small businesses. While this won’t replace advanced device management solutions like Mosyle, Jamf, or Addigy for complex needs, it serves as an excellent zero-touch option for smaller IT teams. Moreover, Apple has unveiled major features for the platform, including fully hosted email services under business domains and a new advertising platform set to launch in Apple Maps this summer.
