Boland on England’s Verbal Tactics
Star bowler Scott Boland has stated that England’s recent shift towards a more aggressive verbal style in Test cricket will likely have minimal effect on Australia when the much-anticipated Ashes series kicks off in 100 days in Perth.
Engaging Series Observed
The Victorian fast bowler followed the exciting series between England and India, during which the hosts decided they were being “too nice” after the second Test, resulting in some high-pressure encounters in the subsequent matches.
Bolin’s Perspective
When asked if Australia would be open to a similar style of play, Boland responded, “Oh, they can do whatever they want when they are playing.”
Consistency in Play
Boland emphasized, “I think we’ve been pretty consistent in the way we’ve played since I’ve been around the squad for the last four years. Not much has changed in our approach to cricket.” He added that success will largely depend on who can seize crucial moments in the games.
Bowling Line-Up Considerations
Having recently joined star bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood in a four-man pace attack during the West Indies Test, Boland noted that while he hopes to see the all-fast-bowling lineup again, it might not happen during the Ashes due to Nathan Lyon’s capabilities and the potential return of all-rounder Cameron Green.
Preparation for the Ashes
As Boland prepares for the Ashes, he currently hasn’t confirmed with Victorian selectors which Sheffield Shield matches he will play early in the season. After a break from bowling, he anticipates participating in a few matches leading up to the first Test.
Backing Teammates
Lastly, Boland supported Victorian teammate Marcus Harris as a strong contender for Australia’s opening position in the Ashes, recognizing Harris’s needed return to Test cricket following his last appearance during the 2021/22 Ashes. Boland remarked that the decision may ultimately depend on which players score the most runs in the upcoming Shield games.
