Fifteen Arrested Following Gunfire Incident
In a separate incident early Monday morning, 15 individuals were apprehended after barricading themselves inside a home in the Hidalgo neighborhood following reported gunfire during a party.
According to the Mexicali Police Department, the situation unfolded on Niños Héroes Street. When responding, officers attempted to communicate with a man inside the residence, who acknowledged the presence of armed individuals but refused to cooperate. This led authorities to secure a search warrant from the State Attorney General’s Office.
During the operation, police arrested 15 men and women and confiscated two handguns along with five vehicles. Residents, wishing to remain anonymous, expressed their fears for safety, noting that gunfire incidents had previously occurred at the location, and previous 911 calls seemed to have gone unaddressed.

Baja California Launches Anti-Extortion Strategy
To enhance safety for families and businesses in Baja California, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda introduced a State Strategy Against Extortion. The governor emphasized a commitment to eradicating violence and ensuring citizens’ peace of mind against threats such as extortion.
A crucial aspect of the strategy is ensuring anonymity and confidentiality for those reporting extortion, addressing fears of retaliation that often deter victims. The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, announced the formation of a State Coordination Center and three Anti-Extortion Centers to bolster intelligence operations and support victim protection.
As of 2025, the state’s Anti-Extortion Group has made 17 related arrests amidst ongoing investigations. This initiative arose following demands from state lawmakers for enhanced measures against extortion.
