The Colorado Rockies added another chapter to a difficult season tonight.
Following an 8-2 defeat to the Atlanta Braves, the Rockies have now lost eight consecutive games, marking their second streak of this length this season (the first occurring from April 11-20). They have dropped 16 of their last 17 games, setting a franchise record for the poorest 17-game performance.
Additionally, the Rockies’ record now stands at 4-25 for the season, tying with the 1988 Orioles and the 2003 Tigers for the worst 29-game start in the Modern Era (since 1901).
Game Overview
The first inning ended without any runs, but the second saw Michael Harris II double, scoring Matt Olson and Sean Murphy. The Rockies responded with Michael Toglia hitting a home run, marking his third of the season.
The game turned sharply in the fourth inning when Olson and Ozzie Albies reached base before Murphy’s infield hit loaded the bases, allowing Olson to score. Nick Allen’s single brought in two more runs, pushing Atlanta’s lead to 5-1.
An Olson double at the start of the fifth added another run for Atlanta, followed by an error that allowed Albies to advance. The Rockies managed some damage control, yielding just one run in that inning.
Pitching Struggles
Germán Márquez, the Rockies’ all-time strikeout leader, had a tough outing, striking out only one and giving up seven earned runs over 5 1⁄3 innings. His current ERA stands at 9.82.
Jimmy Herget’s Performance
Reliever Jimmy Herget has quietly contributed to the team, earning an ERA of 2.40 after allowing just one hit and one run over 1 2⁄3 innings in relief.
Looking Forward
The Rockies aim to end the losing streak in tomorrow’s game, with Chase Dollander set to pitch against Chris Sale at 1:10 PM.
