Brooks Koepka Implements Major Change for PGA Tour Comeback Ahead of WM Phoenix Open, Mirroring Scottie Scheffler’s Previous Success
Brooks Koepka is making a significant change in preparation for his return to the PGA Tour.
During the Farmers Insurance Open, Koepka struggled with his putting, accumulating several bogeys and finishing T56 at four-under. The tournament was convincingly won by Justin Rose, who finished seven shots ahead of the competition.
As he gears up for the WM Phoenix Open, the former LIV Golf star is switching his putting technique dramatically, prompted by J.J. Spaun’s withdrawal from the event.
Heading into the WM Phoenix Open, Koepka is transitioning from a blade to a mallet putter, specifically the TaylorMade Spider model, as reported by the Golf Channel’s Eamon Lynch.
Several top players, including Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, have also switched to mallet-style putters, yielding favorable results—Scheffler notably won the Masters shortly after his change.
Reflecting on his putting struggles at the Farmers Insurance Open, Koepka remarked, as noted by Golf Digest: “It can’t get worse, right?”
Koepka attributed his challenges on the greens to his own performance, stating, “These greens are actually really, really good. It has nothing to do with the greens; it’s all me.” Despite acknowledging his current form, fellow tour players such as Matt Fitzpatrick and Akshay Bhatia expressed enthusiasm about Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour.
