Experienced Leaders at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN — Among Youngstown State’s roster, redshirt senior forward Faith Burch and sixth-year senior guard Casey Santoro have the most extensive college basketball experience.
Game Experience
Burch has participated in 88 games throughout her tenure at Cleveland State and with the Penguins. Santoro, on the other hand, boasts participation in 120 games from her time at Kent State and Florida Gulf Coast.
Leadership Roles
With the recent graduation of players such as Jewel Watkins, Malia Magestro, and Haley Thierry, Burch and Santoro are stepping up as the most seasoned players on the team to fill the leadership gap.
Building Team Dynamics
Despite having several redshirt freshmen and sophomores on the roster, the invaluable experience Burch and Santoro bring is essential, especially since many younger players gained significant experience last season.
Team Growth and Preparation
Head coach Melissa Jackson emphasized the importance of integrating experienced transfers to aid in team development. Burch believes that the second year of play for the young roster will bolster team performance further.
Distinct Leadership Styles
Burch is known for her vocal presence on the court, while Santoro takes a more reserved approach. Both styles are essential for fostering a balanced leadership dynamic within the team.
Aspiring for Success
Burch, excited for her final season, is ready to give her all, while Santoro is working diligently to adapt and establish strong connections with her teammates. Both are focused on fulfilling the team’s potential this year.
