Campus Commons Golf Course in Sacramento Reopens After Long Hiatus
Revamped Design and Layout Unveiled Along the American River
After a lengthy closure, the historic Campus Commons Golf Course in Sacramento is welcoming golfers once again with a fresh design, a redesigned layout, and a promising new chapter along the American River.
Victor Luna, one of the first golfers to swing on the newly reopened course, expressed his excitement. “I grew up playing this course and live nearby, so this is thrilling,” he stated just before teeing off.
The course has been shut since late 2021 due to erosion control and levee repair projects conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This extensive work led to a complete redesign of the Par 3 course, originally opened in 1971.
Kurtis Wolford, the superintendent of Campus Commons Golf Course, shared his thoughts on the renovations: “We lost some acres due to the construction, but I’m thrilled that we’ve reached completion and the course is ready.”
The opening day was a hit, with all 260 tee times filled just four days after the reopening announcement, according to course operators. Andrew Dillon, another enthusiastic golfer, commented, “I’ve never played here, but I was intrigued by the reopening and had to check it out.”
The redesigned course features no sand bunkers and takes full advantage of its scenic riverside location. Wolford noted, “The third hole is potentially the most picturesque in Sacramento, with its entire stretch running alongside the river.”
In addition to the golf course, a new parking lot has been added. However, work on the clubhouse is still ongoing, ensuring that improvements continue to enhance the golfing experience.
