Connor Zilisch is aware that comparisons will extend beyond his fellow competitors in 2026.
The Trackhouse Racing driver achieved 10 victories last year in NASCAR’s primary developmental series, stirring considerable excitement around his future.
Is he on track for the greatest rookie season in NASCAR history?
At just 19, Zilisch is focused on the race ahead rather than dwelling on legacy, particularly in a time where testing opportunities are minimal. Prior to 2015, teams had broader access to testing facilities, but recent regulations have limited practice time significantly.
“It’s going to take time to understand it all,” Zilisch remarked. “You can’t replace experience, especially in today’s limited testing environment. The only way to gain that experience is by racing.”
Zilisch made a strong impression by winning his debut race in what is now the O’Reilly Series at Watkins Glen, with a particular strength in road courses. His Trackhouse teammate, Shane van Gisbergen, set the standard last year, winning five road-course races as a rookie.
“Five wins last year was incredible,” Zilisch acknowledged. “Many great drivers, like Tony Stewart, had impressive rookie years, but plenty took time to adapt. I anticipate a learning curve as well.”
