Chris Sutton Expresses Concerns for Martin O’Neill’s Return and Board’s Responsibility
Recently, I expressed concerns about Martin O’Neill potentially tarnishing his legacy at Celtic, considering the club’s current state.
This time, however, I feel differently.
O’Neill’s return for a second term should not diminish his legacy under any circumstances.
The future lies solely with the Celtic board.
O’Neill will strive to rejuvenate the team and reenter the Premiership title contention, but he is not a miracle worker. His success depends on support from the board for a positive outcome this season.
If the outcomes are disappointing, it may reflect poorly on his Wikipedia page, but the blame will not fall on him. O’Neill will make the team more resilient, contrasting the previous setup under Wilfried Nancy.
Yet, the evident issues that have plagued the club this season persist, and significant effort from the Parkhead management is essential to provide him the resources needed for success.
