Kansas City Chiefs Conduct Ninth OTA of 2025 Season
On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs held their ninth organized team activity (OTA) session for the 2025 season at their practice facility in the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City.
Media Access and Observations
This session marked the third and final voluntary OTA practice available for media coverage. Arrowhead Pride editor-in-chief Pete Sweeney was present and shared his insights on social media, starting with the weather conditions.
Weather Conditions and Attendance
According to Sweeney, Thursday’s practice occurred under sticky, humid clouds with temperatures staying in the mid-70s throughout. Only five players were missing, including WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and TEs Travis Kelce and Tre Watson. Tight end Jake Brinningstool was on-site but did not wear a helmet.
Player Highlights and Absences
Running back Kareem Hunt had to exit practice early after seemingly injuring a finger while attempting to catch a pass but reassured the media that it was not serious. In contrast, rookie left tackle Josh Simmons impressed throughout practice, receiving praise from head coach Andy Reid for his performance.
Defensive Plays and Offensive Chemistry
Notably, S Jaden Hicks made a significant defensive play by breaking up a deep pass during the 7-on-7 segment. Additionally, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and WR Rashee Rice were observed developing their connection with a successful play after an initial miscommunication.
Key Offensive Deployments
During the final 11-on-11 segment, Mahomes successfully threw touchdown passes to running back Isiah Pacheco and tight end Noah Gray. The Chiefs also focused on deep ball practice, experiencing both success and missed opportunities as they aimed to enhance this aspect of their game.
Looking Ahead
As the Chiefs prepare for their next mandatory minicamp starting Tuesday, their final Phase 3 OTA session will occur on Friday, but it will be closed to the media. Sweeney promises comprehensive coverage of the upcoming practices.
