Clint Frazier Critiques Yankees’ Strategy
Clint Frazier has experienced the challenges of playing for the Yankees and is now calling for the team to abandon optimistic assumptions about player recoveries. The former outfielder, who played five seasons in New York, criticized the Yankees for depending on players to revive their careers instead of actively pursuing reliable replacements.
Call for Action
During a recent episode of his podcast, “Life After The Show,” Frazier stated, “Stop relying on the bounceback player.” He emphasized the need for the team to be proactive in acquiring players who might significantly improve the roster, rather than simply hoping for existing players to return to form.
Yankees’ Quiet Winter
His remarks came after a lackluster Winter Meetings for the Yankees, who have yet to make any signings or trades. Meanwhile, division rivals like the Orioles and Blue Jays have already secured star players, highlighting the Yankees’ inactivity.
A Lack of Direction?
Frazier expressed confusion over the Yankees’ offseason strategy, noting, “The way it’s unfolding is that other teams are making moves.” He questioned whether the additions of players like Ryan Yarbrough and Trent Grisham truly change the team’s trajectory, suggesting the Yankees are still clinging to past seasons.
Frazier’s Ongoing Criticism
Since being cut by the organization, Frazier has continually criticized the Yankees for their approach. He recently highlighted the tendency to enter seasons with underperforming players rather than investing in established talent. He stated, “The Yankees need to spend like the Yankees again.”
Targeting Young Players
Frazier particularly called out Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells as players the Yankees should consider moving on from. He pointed out the ample time the team has invested in these individuals without seeing substantial returns and mentioned that they could be packaged in trades for more promising players currently being discussed.
Potential Trade Targets
Lastly, Frazier suggested that the Yankees should look at acquiring players like CJ Abrams and MacKenzie Gore from the Nationals. He believes that trading away struggling young players could pave the way for fresher talent and ultimately lead to a more competitive team.
