Live Boxing Event in Leonardtown
LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The South Atlantic Association of USA Boxing Inc. held another exciting live boxing event in collaboration with Daryl Hinmon, owner of the Knowledge Boxing Center. This event provided amateur boxers from New Jersey, Washington D.C., Annapolis, and local areas an opportunity to sharpen their skills at The Rex, located at 22695 Washington Street.
The evening began with several memorable moments, including Jay Attys’ captivating performance of the national anthem, followed by DJ Nani, who kept the audience engaged throughout the event.
Coaching and Support
Emma Kelly, a new addition to the KBC Sexies, showcased her talent as a ring card presenter, and Darnell Marbury from HD Photography captured the action in stunning photos.
Kahleeel “Moe” Stone, the SMOKE 15 title belt champion from KBC, contributed his support from the coaching corner, guiding the team for this show as Coach John was occupied with female fighters competing in Atlantic City.
Stone expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It was a great experience seeing the fights from a coach’s viewpoint. I’m proud of my teammates and excited to join them for Southern MD Smoke 19.” The next boxing card is scheduled for November 22 at The Rex.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Hinmon highlighted the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by distributing pink T-shirts and noted the generosity of The Rex, which contributed a signed Mike Tyson bobblehead for auction, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Hinmon also commended The Diamonds N the Ruff Boxing Club for promoting camaraderie in the sport and providing valuable training opportunities for boxers and coaches alike.
Highlight of the Evening
Among the standout performances was Coast Guard member Isaiah Barrera, who secured a stoppage win in his debut fight with remarkable prowess. Competing in a 132-pound match, Barrera achieved a third-round RSC against Joshua Tran from Champions Gym.
Barrera, who has loved boxing since childhood, credited his coaches for helping him balance his work and training schedule, stating his aim is to excel in the sport and eventually turn professional.
Ruffin’s Final Fight
Great Mills senior Yasir Ruffin delivered an impressive performance against Ramont Baldwin II from Washington, D.C. This marked Ruffin’s last fight for KBC before graduation, emphasizing the bond and life lessons he gained through boxing.
“As I prepare to graduate, I’m looking forward to securing a college scholarship,” Ruffin shared. Coach Hinmon expressed pride in Ruffin’s growth and acknowledged his resilience, particularly in overcoming personal challenges, including the loss of his father.
This event showcased not only the athleticism of the boxers but also the community spirit and commitment to supporting one another. Hinmon emphasized his gratitude for the sponsors and supporters who continually back amateur boxing.
“We look forward to our final home show of 2025 on November 22, promising another thrilling day for our Southern Maryland fans,” Hinmon added. Tickets for SMOKE 19 will be available, alongside online streaming options. Further details can be found at KnowledgeBoxingCenter.com.
