Dana White Denies Rumors of McGregor vs. Masvidal Fight Ahead of White House Event
UFC president Dana White has firmly rejected speculation about a potential fight between Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal, labeling the discussions as ‘silly’ prior to the historic UFC event at the White House.
McGregor, a former champion in two weight divisions, has not fought since his painful defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021. At 37, he was expected to return to the ring in June 2024 against Michael Chandler, but had to withdraw due to a training injury.
Concerns arose over whether McGregor would ever fight again, but he is currently targeting a comeback this year, especially after President Donald Trump announced plans for a significant UFC event on the White House’s South Lawn this June.
Following the cancellation of McGregor’s bout with Chandler, he has continuously pushed for a rescheduled matchup. However, White seems unenthused by the matchup. Shortly after dismissing the McGregor-Chandler fight, Masvidal mentioned he was in talks for a fight with McGregor.
During an interview, White stated, “I don’t pay attention to any of the ridiculous stuff. It’s all nonsense.” He emphasized that much of the information circulating about the UFC is inaccurate, stating, “Literally none of that is in my scope.”
Masvidal, expressing his desire to participate in the White House card, mentioned ongoing discussions with the UFC. He stated that his manager is actively communicating with White and UFC officials to secure a spot on the historic card.
Preparations for the White House card will likely pick up following UFC 324’s events this weekend. White aims to finalize discussions for the top bouts soon after, ideally by mid-February.
