Shikhar Dhawan has found love again with Sophie Shine, marrying on February 21, 2026. Shortly after their wedding, a significant ruling was issued in his ongoing legal dispute with his ex-wife, Aesha Mukerji. The family court in Delhi has mandated that Aesha return Rs. 5.7 crore.
Delhi Court’s Decision on Ayesha Mukerji
The Delhi family court ordered former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan’s ex-wife, Ayesha Mukerji, to repay Rs. 5.7 crore. Ayesha had received an Australian property settlement ruled to be achieved through coercion and deceit. Judge Devender Kumar Garg of the Patiala House Court deemed the settlement documents invalid.
The judge concluded that Dhawan signed these agreements under duress and fraudulent circumstances. Additionally, Ayesha is required to pay 9% annual interest on this amount starting from the date Dhawan initiated legal proceedings. The court ruled that the Australian court lacked jurisdiction over the couple’s marital matters.
Overturning of the Australian Court’s Ruling
The Delhi court blocked Ayesha Mukerji from implementing a 2024 Australian court ruling that had divided their global assets, including Dhawan’s properties and finances in India. The Australian court awarded Ayesha 15% of the asset pool.
This resulted in Ayesha retaining assets worth about AUD 1.17 million (approximately Rs. 7.46 crore), along with an additional Rs. 15.95 crore (AUD 2.5 million) from Dhawan, and a property transfer. Dhawan contested this ruling, claiming it violated Indian marriage laws.
Allegations of Coercion
Shikhar Dhawan’s lengthy legal ordeal has drawn considerable public attention. In court, he alleged that shortly after marrying Ayesha in 2012, she threatened to disseminate false and damaging information to tarnish his reputation and cricket career. He stated he had to register properties under her name against his will.
Insights on the Divorce and Custody Battle
A Delhi court granted a divorce to the couple in 2023, citing the mental distress Dhawan faced due to prolonged separation from their son, Zoravar. The court noted that Ayesha either did not contest Dhawan’s claims or failed to adequately respond. Although Dhawan received visitation rights and access for video calls, he expressed concerns about being blocked from contacting his son.
