Oliver Glasner Rules Out Marc Guehi’s January Exit from Crystal Palace
Manager Oliver Glasner has stated that he anticipates Marc Guehi will remain with Crystal Palace throughout the season. This comes after Guehi, whose proposed £35 million transfer to Liverpool fell through on transfer deadline day last summer, is set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
Guehi was in the midst of completing a medical with Liverpool after reaching an agreement, but the deal was halted by Eagles chairman Steve Parish, who could not find a suitable replacement for the center-back.
Although Liverpool remains interested in the defender, they are not alone in their pursuit. Other clubs are also eyeing Guehi’s potential transfer when his contract expires.
Earlier reports from the Manchester Evening News indicated that Manchester City also has Guehi on their radar for a possible move in the summertime.
Glasner firmly believes that Guehi will not leave mid-season, expressing confidence during a press conference preceding the team’s UEFA Conference League match against Kuopion Palloseura: “I think Marc will stay until the end of the season.”
The Crystal Palace manager commented on the timing of Liverpool’s approach, suggesting had they initiated discussions earlier, the outcome might have been different. Parish has emphasized the importance of financial prudence for the club, saying, “You can’t spend money you don’t have.”
While Glasner is optimistic that Guehi will complete the season with Palace, teammate Adam Wharton noted that many expected their captain to have already departed the club.
