Hooker Calls Out Tsarukyan for a Fight
Dan Hooker is seeking a match against Arman Tsarukyan, especially since it seems that no other fighters are interested.
Return from Injury
Currently recovering from hand surgery in March, “The Hangman” hopes to face top lightweight contender Tsarukyan when he returns, as this matchup could serve as a pathway to a title shot against current champion Ilia Topuria.
Future of Lightweight Division
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Hooker shared his insights on the division’s landscape and how a fight with Tsarukyan could fit in.
Mapping Out the Rankings
“Max Holloway likely has one more fight before he can rematch Topuria,” said Hooker. He noted that with Islam Makhachev moving to welterweight and expectations for future matchups, it makes sense for him to fight Tsarukyan, especially since other contenders may avoid taking on the challenge.
Acknowledging Tsarukyan’s Skills
According to Hooker, while his interest in Tsarukyan is purely professional, he understands the hesitance that other top fighters might have about facing him. “He’s a tough opponent and even though he may not be the most dangerous, I think he’s the best at winning fights,” Hooker explained.
Social Media Exchanges
Despite his respect for Tsarukyan, Hooker hasn’t held back on social media, recently calling out both Charles Oliveira and Tsarukyan, though he was less restrained in his comments about Tsarukyan.
Looking Ahead to the Fight
Reflecting on the potential fight, Hooker expressed a preference for the New York card over a quick turnaround in Perth. He mentioned that while it would have been an exciting opportunity, an extended recovery time was necessary for his hand. “It’s about doing it for the fans and the UFC,” Hooker said, showing his commitment to returning to competition.
