Selection Dilemma for Dandy Town Coach
As the Friendship Trophy semi-final against Devonshire Cougars approaches on Boxing Day at Somerset Cricket Club (2 pm), Dandy Town’s coach Jarreau Hayward faces a selection challenge.
Available Players
With nine overseas players possibly ready to play, Hayward and his staff must make difficult decisions. Lazai Outerbridge, Jaiden Manders, Jekai Eve, Hayden Dill, Jahzii Johnson, Adrian Trott, Aaron Estravit, Kennahz Fray, and Tajahri Rogers are among those who could participate this Friday.
Impact of Returning Players
“Having some college players back will provide local players with much-needed rest,” Hayward stated in an interview with The Royal Gazette. “Their presence boosts competition and equality within the team. Dandy Town’s youth system has clearly been productive, so it’s exciting to face tough selection decisions.”
Fray’s Impressive Performance
Kennahz Fray returns for the holidays after a successful stint at Future Pro Academy in England. The 17-year-old trialed at Blackburn Rovers and has received a second invitation to return in the new year.
Aiming to Retain the Trophy
Hayward is determined to keep the Friendship Trophy, having assisted Kyle Lightbourne when Dandy Town beat PHC 3-1 in this year’s final. “This trophy was my first win at Dandy Town, so retaining it is crucial,” he emphasized.
Preparation Against Cougars
Citing a previous loss to Cougars, Hayward noted the importance of players performing at their best. “We need to improve upon our last match against them, focusing solely on this challenge,” he mentioned.
Upcoming Matches and Challenges
Cumulatively, Cougars will miss striker Chae Brangman due to commitments off the island, impacting their lineup. Coach Mark Mills stressed the importance of teamwork as they weather injuries and other challenges. Other semi-finals will see Somerset Eagles face Wolves, while North Village looks to break a streak without winning the Friendship Trophy against Devonshire Colts.
