Following a rigorous practice on Monday, the Detroit Lions toned down the intensity for Wednesday’s training camp, opting to wear shells during the two-hour session on the field.
The highlight of the day was once again a solid performance from the defense. Let’s dive into that and other observations from Day 11 of the Detroit Lions training camp.
Defense Remains Strong, Campbell Not Concerned About Offense
Throughout training camp, the offense has seldom outperformed the defense. While there have been moments of equality, the defense has consistently shown dominance, as was evident on Wednesday.
During red zone drills, the Lions offense did manage to score a touchdown through Kalif Raymond, although it was a continuation of a drive that was nearly halted by a fourth down stop.
In a situational drill, the offense struggled further, culminating in a four-and-out. After a drop from Amon-Ra St. Brown and a series of short passes, they faced a fourth-and-2, but Jameson Williams dropped a pass intended for him, resulting in a turnover.
The Lions continued their practice despite the setbacks, eventually pushing down the field with shorter passes. With some leniency from coaches allowing plays to proceed despite near sacks, they achieved a touchdown just before the end of practice.
Coach Dan Campbell remained unconcerned about the offense lagging behind the defense, emphasizing the crucial nature of refining their performance details and ensuring they still could manage without key players.
