Each episode will be explored to highlight connections to the source material.
For insights from episode two, check out our findings, while here we focus on every video game easter egg and detail from episode three of Fallout Season 2.
Characters and Factions
1. Early in the episode, we meet Caesar’s Legion, the Roman-themed faction from New Vegas. The group leading Lucy into their camp includes enemy types from the game: a Centurion at the front, followed by some Vexilliarii and Praetorian Guards.
2. Shortly after, a Frumentarius scout appears in the background, recognizable by their wolfskin headpiece, with another scout seen later extracting teeth from a victim.
3. As Lucy is guided across the camp, a Recruit Decanus can be spotted wearing a black and red headpiece and mask.
4. Macaulay Culkin’s character portrays a Legate, the Legion’s second-in-command. His character, named Lacerta, is new and distinct from the Legates encountered in New Vegas, who were Lanius and Malpais.
5. The Legion is led by Caesar. While he dons a similar black feather cloak and gold pin brooch to the Caesar from the game, he is a different individual who assumes the title.
Locations
6. The Ghoul meets Victor at the House Resort and Country Club, a significant estate from New Vegas, once owned by Robert House and briefly occupied by the NCR during the game.
7. In the background of the Ghoul’s interaction with the NCR ranger remains, the El Diablo roller coaster can be faintly seen, identifiable by its crest and Bison Steve Hotel sign.
8. Thaddeus and his gang occupy what appears to be the Sunset Sarsaparilla headquarters bottling plant, known for its famous soft drink featured throughout the wasteland.
Items and Iconography
9. The children collect bottle caps, the wasteland’s standard currency. Their effort may also focus on finding Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottle caps, which have a luminous blue star, linked to a side quest in Fallout: New Vegas.
10. Lacerta wears a metal, bearded mask, similar to the one worn by Lanius, marking him as a Legate of the Legion.
11. Lucy’s punishment by the Legion includes being tied to a wooden cross, a method of crucifixion seen within New Vegas’ contexts.
Music
12. This episode includes three songs that align with the retro music theme of Fallout’s radio stations but are not part of the games. The first is “Chain Gang” by Sam Cooke, playing as Thaddeus’ children gather bottle caps.
13. During a flashback to Charlie Whiteknife’s ceremony, “The Yellow Roses of Texas” by Mitch Miller is heard, a modern rework of a Civil War tune.
14. The closing credits feature “Hot Dog Buddy Buddy,” a 1956 hit by Bill Haley and His Comets.
