Christian Norgaard has transitioned from Brentford to N5, marking him as our third acquisition of the summer.
The seasoned midfielder has stood out in the Premier League since his debut against us in August 2021, accumulating over 180 appearances in the competition.
While many fans may already be familiar with his skills, here are some additional insights about our new Danish midfielder:
Early Beginnings
Born in Copenhagen, Christian has been a vital part of the Danish national team since debuting for the under-16s in 2009. He has played 73 times at youth levels, participating in the U17 World Cup in 2011 and the Euro Under-21 Championships in 2015 and 2017, before making his first-team debut in 2020.
Euro 2020 Experience
After his first-team debut, Norgaard was called up for Euro 2020 with Denmark, competing in all three group matches at Parken in Copenhagen. He came off the bench in two of those matches, played in a round of 16 victory over Wales, and was also subbed in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic. Norgaard featured in the late stages of the semi-final where Denmark faced England.
Career Journey
Having developed in the youth ranks at Lyngby, Christian attracted attention across Europe and signed with Hamburg. However, after failing to make a first-team appearance, he returned to Brondby, where he found success, winning the Danish Cup in 2018. After a challenging stint at Fiorentina, he flourished again under compatriot Thomas Frank at Brentford.
Making an Impact
Christian played a crucial role in Brentford’s return to the top flight after decades, featuring in their opening match of the season on August 13, 2021. Scoring the second goal against us in that match and again netting against us in the reverse fixture, he quickly made an impact.
Unique Insights
Not only is Norgaard a skilled player, but his grandmother also documents his career by creating an annual scrapbook filled with newspaper clippings. Moreover, his childhood idol was Zinedine Zidane, who inspired him during his formative years. Off the pitch, Christian enjoys golfing and has expressed a keen interest in coaching future generations, having supported a platform called Tonsser aimed at young, overlooked players.
Leadership and Recognition
Throughout his career, Christian has displayed remarkable leadership, captaining multiple teams, including Denmark’s under-19s. As of the 2023/24 season, he has taken on the captaincy of Brentford, leading them in numerous Premier League matches. His contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he has received multiple player-of-the-year accolades in his career.
