Today was the third practice of the Philadelphia Eagles training camp in preparation for the 2025 NFL season. The session was non-padded and lasted approximately an hour and 40 minutes. Here are my observations from the NovaCare Complex.
EAGLES PRACTICE NOTES
- JALEN HURTS UPDATE: This practice was noticeably Hurts’ least impressive of the offseason. He showed some flashes, completing several passes to Dallas Goedert, including two short red zone touchdowns to DeVonta Smith and a long throw to A.J. Brown down the sideline. However, he also had more incompletions today than in all previous practices combined, underthrew Brown on a deep pass, and threw into a dummy meant to replicate a leaping defender during 7-on-7 drills. Hurts also had a pass deflected during 11-on-11s and overthrew Smith while rolling out, plus another pass to Jahan Dotson was too wide for him to secure. Let’s see if Hurts can improve on Monday.

- EAGLES INJURY REPORT: Jalen Carter (shoulder) has not yet participated in practice this summer. Kenyon Green (knee) has moved to limited participation after missing the previous sessions. Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) and Cam Jurgens (back) were also listed as limited. Andrew Mukuba seemed to get injured late in practice. Nakobe Dean remains on the active/PUP list.
- JIHAAD CAMPBELL RISING: This was the first time this summer that the Eagles’ 2025 first-round pick practiced with the first-team defense. While Jeremiah Trotter Jr. took most of the snaps alongside Zack Baun, Campbell’s performance is clearly improving. After practice, Campbell mentioned he’ll be ready for the first padded session on Tuesday.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — CORNERBACK: It was notable that Adoree’ Jackson took the first-team right cornerback position in 11-on-11 drills instead of Kelee Ringo. Both players are rotating reps, but Jackson’s placement was unexpected. Conversely, Sydney Brown resumed his position as the first-team nickel safety after Andrew Mukuba had a shot on Day 2. Jackson’s performance hasn’t drawn much attention, while Ringo had a standout moment this past Saturday, though it involved allowing a reception to A.J. Brown under challenging circumstances.
- POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — SAFETY: As mentioned, Brown led the nickel safety group, with Mukuba still rotating in. Mukuba had a role in the dime package, but he missed a play where Tanner McKee connected with Danny Gray for a diving reception.
- DEFENSIVE LINE DISRUPTION: Nolan Smith applied pressure against Lane Johnson. Meanwhile, Moro Ojomo consistently disrupted plays in the backfield, and Jordan Davis managed to deflect a pass from Hurts at the line.
- DALLAS GOEDERT POISED FOR A BIG YEAR? Hurts has been targeting Goedert frequently, and he’s been catching nearly everything thrown his way.
- QUINYON MITCHELL CONTINUES TO BE LOCKDOWN: On the first day of camp, Mitchell prevented a deep completion to Brown and did the same on Day 3 against DeVonta Smith, showing impressive skills as he heads into his second year.
- WIDE RECEIVERS BEHIND THE TOP TWO: Terrace Marshall took at least one first-team rep during a red zone drill, and Danny Gray made a significant diving catch. Although they haven’t surpassed Jahan Dotson, they’re certainly making an impression this offseason. Meanwhile, Ainias Smith continues to be largely unnoticeable.
- TANNER MCKEE COOLS OFF: McKee also struggled today, missing some throws and narrowly avoiding an interception in the end zone, which was dropped by Parry Nickerson. He also had a pass batted down by Sydney Brown.
- DORIAN THOMPSON-ROBINSON HEATS UP: In contrast, DTR had one of his best days, delivering accurate throws under pressure, although he’s still not in contention for a roster spot over Kyle McCord, who has performed better.
- SPEAKING OF KYLE MCCORD: The rookie quarterback showed confidence, completing a tight-coverage throw that was impressive, finishing practice with a solid completion to Elijah Cooks.
- CAN YOU SMELL WHAT ELIJAH IS COOKING? Cooks, a 6’4”, 215-pound undrafted receiver from 2023, made an impressive back-shoulder catch against B.J. Mayes. Following his catch, he celebrated enthusiastically with teammates. Although he’s a long shot for the roster, he may earn a practice squad position.
- JAKE THE MAKE: Jake Elliott successfully made all his field goal attempts, including two from 53 yards. I predict he’s on track for a strong season.
- LONG SNAPPING ISSUES? Charley Hughlett had a high snap that was manageable for the holder. This may be a lingering issue to watch.
- UDFA TO WATCH: Montrell Johnson displayed good speed, but with likely only three running back spots available, he may end up on the practice squad.
- NOT LONG FOR THE ROSTER? Trevor Keegan appeared frustrated after a missed assignment as the third-team center.
- IT’S LOUD: For the first time, the Eagles used pumped crowd noise during practice, but it was not well-received.
- WHAT’S BETTER THAN ONE VINCE LOMBARDI TROPHY? What a memorable sight:
UP NEXT: The Eagles players will have Sunday off and return for practice at 10:00 AM on Monday morning. View the full training camp schedule here.
