Kevin Thomas Jr. Triumphs at Williams Grove Speedway
During his latest appearance at Williams Grove Speedway, Kevin Thomas Jr. led all 30 laps, achieving a decisive victory that required less late-race drama compared to his previous win in June 2024.
The Cullman, Alabama driver claimed the third round of the USAC Eastern Storm Presented by Levan Machine & Truck Equipment on Friday night, racing in his Rock Steady Racing/Inferno Armor – Lucas Oil Center – Creative Finishing/Mach-1/Stanton Chevy.
This victory marked Thomas’s second in the 2025 USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship season and the 46th of his career, tying him with Jack Hewitt for sixth on the all-time USAC National Sprint Car win list.
Reflecting on his achievement, Thomas shared, “That’s pretty cool. When you start out, you look at the names on the list. Just to have a win and to say I raced with these guys is special.” He also praised Hewitt, stating, “Jack is the coolest dude ever. He’ll whoop your ass and then pray with you.”
This victory at Williams Grove was Thomas’s third, making him only the second driver to secure consecutive USAC National Sprint Car wins at the venue since Jan Opperman in 1973. With three wins at this track, he now ranks second in the all-time standings, only one win behind A.J. Foyt’s four.
The race experienced delays before it began as a nearby car accident led to a power outage, causing the track lights to go dark. However, the unplanned break lasted just about 20 minutes before racing resumed without lengthy interruptions. Initially, attempts to start the race were marred by multiple accidents, but Thomas finally took the lead on the third attempt.
Thomas emphasized the challenges of navigating the track: “It’s tough, especially with the corner shapes. If you misjudge it, you could easily find yourself in trouble.” His strategy and patience paid off, allowing him to maintain his lead to the finish.
