At the start of the season, Roman Anthony, Cade Horton, Nick Kurtz, and Jacob Wilson were recognized as top prospects, and they have more than met expectations in the majors. Similarly, Samuel Basallo, Owen Caissie, Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, and JJ Wetherholt have made impressive strides in the Minor Leagues.
In addition to the anticipated players, there have been numerous surprising performances among prospects. I’ve compiled my annual All-Breakout Team, highlighting players who weren’t initially ranked in the top 10 of our organization’s Top 30s but have significantly improved. Caleb Bonemer, Carlos Lagrange, Mike Sirota, and Payton Tolle have all made it onto our current Top 100 Prospects list, with Edward Florentino set to join them soon.
Marco Dinges, C, Brewers:
Dinges has a high-effort swing that produces impressive bat speed, reflected in his .300/.415/.502 stats with 11 home runs over 72 games across two Class A levels. While his catching skills are still developing, he possesses a strong arm.
Jonathon Long, 1B, Cubs:
Long holds the second-most career homers at Long Beach State, with 26 to his name, and he has outperformed expectations since being drafted by the Cubs in the ninth round two years ago. He is currently batting .307/.405/.489 with 19 home runs in 124 Triple-A games.
A.J. Ewing, 2B, Mets:
Drafted with a compensation pick for the loss of Jacob deGrom, Ewing had a tough introduction to full-season ball last year. However, he’s rebounded with a .317/.409/.436 line and 68 steals (fifth in the Minors), advancing from Single-A to Double-A in 2025.
Jacob Reimer, 3B, Mets:
Reimer, another fourth-round Mets pick who received an over-slot bonus, is thriving after recovering from a hamstring injury. He’s shown great swing decisions and power, with a .286/.386/.513 line, 17 home runs, and 15 steals across 112 games in High-A and Double-A.
