Eric Basran set for WBC Grand Prix
Undefeated Indian-Canadian boxer Eric Basran is preparing to participate in the inaugural WBC Grand Prix next month in Riyadh, competing in the super-lightweight category. Excited to showcase his talents, Basran will join several other recognized names, including teammates from his former Canadian amateur squad.
Honored to Participate
“I am truly honored to take part in this tournament,” Basran expressed. “It presents a fantastic format and a thrilling opportunity for me to introduce myself to those who may not be familiar with me.”
A Game Changer for Prospects
He added, “For young fighters like myself, this can be a game changer, significantly enhancing our profiles and potentially opening doors for our future in boxing.” Basran feels ready to demonstrate his skills, confident that his fellow competitors share the same sentiment, making the upcoming event even more exhilarating.
From Amateurs to Professionals
Basran, a member of the Canadian amateur team until 2021, had been aiming for the Olympics but faced an injury that needed surgical attention. After careful consideration, he chose surgery over risking long-term consequences, making the transition to professional boxing shortly thereafter in 2022.
Maintaining Balance & Cultural Heritage
A committed athlete of faith, Basran comes from a Sikh background. He emphasizes the importance of representing his Punjabi Sikh community as he rises through the sport. With both Eastern and Western values guiding him, he appreciates the teachings of his grandparents while adapting to life in Canada.
Building a Strong Social Media Presence
With a growing social media following, Basran understands the significance of brand building for young fighters. He acknowledges the support he receives from fans and the community, which motivates him further. “My aim is to be a role model for the Sikh community and inspire the next generation to enter the sport,” he stated.
Future Ambitions
Looking ahead, Basran’s focus is on performing well in the WBC Grand Prix, aspiring to move towards world title contention. “I have the skills to succeed at a high level, and I’m eager to prove to the boxing world that I belong there,” he concluded.
