KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals kicked off their 2026 season in Atlanta this past weekend and are back for their home opener on Monday.
The Royals are aiming to better their 82-80 record from 2025, which left them out of the playoffs following their advance to the American League Division Series the previous year.
The team boasts All-Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., burgeoning star third baseman Maikel Garcia, experienced catcher Salvador Perez, and a strong rotation of starting pitchers ready to perform.
Historically, outfield production has been a challenge for the Royals. General manager JJ Picollo made a minor upgrade by signing Starling Marte for $1 million but couldn’t secure more significant changes. The front office is hopeful that Jac Caglianone will enhance his skills in his second year.
If starter Cole Ragans regains his All-Star performance from last season, Kris Bubic continues his upward trajectory, and the offense sees contributions from Caglianone and promising young catcher Carter Jensen, the Royals could contend for their first AL Central title since 2015.
