Amad Diallo scored a spectacular volley to earn Manchester United a draw against Nottingham Forest, ending their winning streak with a thrilling 2-2 match.
In the final nine minutes, with Forest in control, Amad unleashed a powerful left-footed shot after a Nikola Milenkovic header found him on the edge of the box. He nearly secured a last-minute victory but was thwarted by a goalline clearance from Murillo, highlighting the dramatic nature of the game.
Manchester United went into halftime ahead after a controversial goal from Casemiro. The officials awarded a corner despite replays that did not clearly indicate whether the entire ball had crossed the line. Casemiro went on to head the ball into the net, igniting anger in the City Ground.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean commented, “It’s not out… The ball is nowhere near out. It’s just a guess by the referee,” reflecting the frustration over the officiating. Forest had recently experienced a similar situation, conceding from what should have been a goal kick in a match against Bournemouth.
After the game, Forest manager Sean Dyche called for a review of the rules regarding VAR’s involvement in similar situations, stating, “We talk about the margins in football, why isn’t VAR used? It only takes eight seconds to confirm if the ball is in or out.”
Fuelled by the perceived injustice, Forest equalized with a brilliant header from Morgan Gibbs-White just three minutes into the second half, before Nicolo Savona, who was at the center of the corner controversy, scored their second goal.
Despite United’s attempts to regain control, including a shot from Bruno Fernandes that hit the post, Forest remained a threat. They missed several opportunities to extend their lead. Ultimately, this draw ended United’s chance to move up to second place in the Premier League, while Forest remained in the relegation zone.
