Over four years since its debut, Guilty Gear Strive remains popular, with its latest DLC character, Lucy from Cyberpunk, set to release on August 21 as part of Character Pass 4. Additionally, during the Strive finals at Evo, a trailer teased a new chapter titled Guilty Gear Strive 2.00, featuring silhouettes of iconic characters Robo-Ky and Jam Kuradoberi, signaling their addition to the growing roster.
To gather insights into the future of Strive, I spoke with Ken Miyauchi, the producer, during the event to discuss these developments.
What can you share about the newly announced Guilty Gear Strive 2.00?
Miyauchi: We released a teaser for version 2.00 but haven’t gone into specifics yet. The inclusion of “2.00” signifies our aim to introduce exciting new content; further details will be unveiled soon.
Regarding the silhouettes of Jam and Robo-Ky, can you elaborate on these characters?
Miyauchi: We’re actively developing new characters. Lucy will launch on August 21, but Jam and Robo-Ky are also on the way. Stay tuned for updates.
What can players expect from Lucy’s gameplay?
Miyauchi: Players are curious about Lucy’s mechanics. A standout feature is her Quickhack, inspired by Cyberpunk 2077, which visually mirrors its game mechanic. She will have a unique fighting style unlike others in Strive.
Can you provide information on the upcoming ranked mode?
Miyauchi: The ranked mode will feature a standard match system similar to other fighting games, where players accumulate battle points to achieve higher ranks. Notably, a Vanquisher rank will allow players to compete in rating matches. There will also be helpful features, including a Wi-Fi indicator to enhance the online experience.
Are there adjustments planned for existing game mechanics like RISC and Guard Crush?
Miyauchi: Yes, we are preparing a battle balance patch alongside the Lucy update. We aim to refine game mechanics based on player feedback, ensuring character uniqueness while toning down certain elements that have been overly accessible.
