Bally’s Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel: A Historical Transformation
Bally’s Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel is housed in a building deeply rooted in the city’s history. When Bally’s Corporation acquired the Belle of Baton Rouge five years ago, they embarked on a mission to renovate this historic venue, which has a narrative as distinct as its architecture.
A Unique Structure with a Rich Past
The five-story, 50,000-square-foot glass atrium was once a railroad depot over a century ago before it transitioned into a marketplace, entertainment center, and casino. “This is truly one of a kind—it’s an innovative combination of a gaming area and entertainment complex under a large greenhouse,” explains Lauren Westfield, Bally’s Casino’s Vice President of Communications.
Significant Investment in Transformation
Bally’s Corporation invested $140 million in the Bally’s Baton Rouge project. Two years after acquiring both The Queen and Belle of Baton Rouge properties, major renovations commenced. The initiative prioritized preservation, carefully blending the building’s historical features with modern upgrades.
Honoring History and Local Culture
Throughout the casino, historical touches are evident, from the original railroad tracks repurposed as lobby beams to a plaque from the former Catfish Town marketplace. Westfield highlights the legacy wheel games from the Belle of Baton Rouge boat as her favorite historic feature. Special local elements, like an amethyst-infused bar top embodying the city’s colors, further connect the venue to Baton Rouge.
Modern Amenities with Community Focus
The casino boasts 800 slot machines, leading to a central bar with retractable panels that reveal a glass ceiling at night. For visitors, the facility includes a hotel with 242 rooms, fitness center, and a VIP lounge offering panoramic downtown views. The Dining Depot provides a full-service experience with various dining options, complemented by a private speakeasy-style lounge featuring bowling lanes.
Exciting Features and Community Engagement
One standout attraction is the DraftKings Sportsbook, designed to create a sense of community among local sports enthusiasts, given its proximity to the stadium. The sportsbook area, featuring a 46-foot TV and numerous betting kiosks, extends into the casino, creating an engaging viewing experience.
A Revival and Ongoing Commitment
Slots manager Wendie Green, who has been part of this casino since its inception in 1994, expressed her excitement about the transformation: “It’s been rejuvenated in a way that we haven’t seen in years.” Bally’s has breathed new life into the venue, making it a vibrant hub. Bally’s Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel is now open around the clock, offering endless entertainment, dining, and gaming experiences.
