WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Review and Benchmark Analysis
505 Games has removed the review embargo for WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, a highly anticipated title among Souls fans. With a review code provided by the publisher, we’ve conducted benchmarks to evaluate its performance on PC.
Benchmark Setup
Our testing employed a powerful setup, including an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and multiple GPUs like AMD Radeon RX 6900XT, RX 7900XTX, RX 9070XT as well as NVIDIA’s RTX 2080Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. All tests were performed on Windows 10 64-bit with the GeForce 577.00 and Radeon Adrenalin Edition 25.6.3 drivers.
Graphics Settings Overview
The developers, Leenzee, have incorporated a variety of graphics settings for players to customize, covering aspects such as Shadows, Effects, Textures, and Vegetation. The game boasts support for NVIDIA DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation. However, it lacks compatibility with AMD FSR 3.0 or Intel XeSS, which is concerning for non-NVIDIA users, as they would have to rely solely on UE5’s TSR for performance gains.
Benchmark Findings
In terms of performance, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers does not feature a built-in benchmark. We used the initial open-world area for our tests. At 1080p/Max Settings, a minimum of AMD RX 7900XTX is required to maintain over 60FPS. Both the NVIDIA RTX 3080 and AMD Radeon RX 6900XT fell short of this benchmark.
Performance at Higher Resolutions
At 1440p/Max Settings, only the NVIDIA RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 were able to provide a smooth experience. The NVIDIA RTX 5080, AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX, and RX 9070XT consistently performed below 60FPS. Moving to Native 4K/Max Settings, no GPU achieved 60FPS, with the NVIDIA RTX 5090 averaging between 47FPS to 54FPS, emphasizing the need for an upscaling solution.
DLSS 4 Insights
Though DLSS 4 Quality enabled stable 60FPS on the NVIDIA RTX 5090, it surprisingly showed inferior shadow quality compared to DLAA. Thus, for the best experience at 4K, utilizing DLAA alongside MFG X4 is recommended. Unfortunately, the game has issues where Frame Generation disables during in-game events, leading to stutter, which has been reported to NVIDIA and Leenzee.
Final Thoughts
While WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is an impressive title from a smaller studio, it’s quite demanding on PC hardware. Current limitations regarding AMD FSR 3.0 and Intel XeSS are disappointing, and despite the capabilities of DLSS 4, the bugs present hinder performance. Gamers with high-end GPUs may manage through brute force, but mid-range users might struggle without DLSS or TSR adjustments.
Enjoy!
