ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II showcased thrilling action at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok on Friday, February 13, featuring three crucial mixed martial arts matches that ended with fast and dramatic results.
This section of the U.S. primetime card witnessed first-round stoppages spread across three different weight classes, as fighters sought to rebound from previous defeats in pursuit of glory in their divisions.
A 19-year-old talent made a strong comeback after his initial career loss, a Canadian grappler showcased his skills with a textbook submission following a previous defeat, and a Chinese fighter disrupted a former World Title challenger’s eagerly awaited return.
Here’s a recap of the next three MMA fights from ONE Fight Night 40.
Hu Shocks Kingad with Ground-and-Pound Finish
Chinese fighter Hu Yong halted his two-fight losing streak by defeating former ONE Flyweight MMA World Title contender Danny Kingad with a ground-and-pound finish just 10 seconds before the end of the first round.
The bout began with both fighters striking aggressively. However, once the fight went to the ground, “Wolf Warrior” established dominance, pinning Kingad into the corner and delivering a fierce sequence of knees to the Filipino fighter’s head. Kingad, unable to defend effectively, was hit with a series of punches, prompting the referee to stop the fight.
Tynan Overwhelms Takeuchi, Secures Submission Victory
Canadian fighter Ben “Vanilla Thunder” Tynan made a striking return to the win column, submitting Japanese striker “Rising Rock Star” Ryugo Takeuchi with an arm-triangle choke in the first round of their heavyweight clash.
A former Junior National Wrestling Champion, Tynan, avoided a potentially dangerous striking exchange to swiftly take Takeuchi down. Once grounded, Tynan unleashed punches from side control, before locking in a solid arm-triangle choke that forced Takeuchi to tap out at 2:07 of round one.
Lee Makes a Strong Comeback with TKO Win
Following his first-ever loss five months prior, teenage prodigy Adrian “The Phenom” Lee returned with renewed vigor, decisively finishing Shozo “Great Teacher” Isojima via ground-and-pound for a TKO victory in the first round.
Both fighters were eager for redemption after suffering losses to ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion Tye Ruotolo last year. Lee aggressively initiated the fight but had to regroup after being momentarily wobbled by a punch. However, he regained his composure, executed a takedown, and unleashed a stream of powerful punches and elbows, prompting the referee to stop the match at 2:56 in the opening round.
