The 2026 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and I haven’t dedicated as much time as I’d like to consider which players would be great additions for our Minnesota Vikings. I plan to spend some time over the next few weeks addressing this, starting with a few prospects I’d like to see the Vikings target with their first pick.
I’ll focus on players who, based on various mock drafts and rankings online, are realistically available for the Vikings’ 18th overall pick. Also, I will be excluding Dillon Thieneman from this discussion. While he could be an excellent choice for the Vikings, it seems every mock draft includes him at #18, so I want to explore some alternatives.
The following five players are not in any specific order and represent one individual’s perspective. Your opinion may differ!
While tight end may not be the Vikings’ most pressing need right now, it’s worth considering. T.J. Hockenson’s contract renewal makes him a free agent after this season, and he hasn’t fully recovered from his knee injury. The Vikings need to think about the future at this position, and Sadiq could be a valuable asset. With remarkable Combine results, including the fastest 40-yard dash time for a tight end, he can also block and pose a receiving threat. Sadiq could be a sneaky choice at #18 to diversify the offense.
Kayden McDonald, DL, Ohio State
Historically, the Vikings have lacked a dominant force in the middle of their defense. Kayden McDonald is a standout candidate in this year’s draft class. While his pass-rushing ability may not be the best, he could significantly contribute to the team’s effort to create third-and-long situations.
Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee
The Vikings seem to target cornerbacks early every year. Although Brian Flores has effectively developed some less-touted corners, Jermod McCoy stands out. Despite missing the entire 2025 season due to a torn ACL, he showcased impressive skills at his Pro Day. If the Vikings believe he can rebound, he might be an intriguing option in the first round.
Keldric Faulk, Edge, Auburn
Although there’s uncertainty regarding Jonathan Greenard’s situation, adding an edge rusher could become essential for the Vikings. Keldric Faulk may not have impressive sack numbers, but his potential is notable. The Vikings previously took a chance on an athletic player with modest college stats, who ended up excelling. Faulk’s impressive size and agility make him an intriguing prospect.
Adding a wide receiver might seem outrageous, but it’s not entirely out of the question. With Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison both nearing significant contracts, the depth chart lacks depth, especially after Jalen Nailor’s exit. Although the team may have uncertainty regarding Tai Felton, could the Vikings really opt for another first-round receiver? They did once draft Randy Moss alongside Cris Carter and Jake Reed, but that was a rare occurrence.
What are your thoughts on potential players for the Vikings at #18 in this year’s NFL Draft? Feel free to share in the comments and let us know your opinions on the players mentioned here!
