Francis Ngannou Shares Reflections After Tragic Incident
The former UFC heavyweight champion has spoken out about life’s challenges following his involvement in a fatal accident in his home country, Cameroon, last month.
Reports from news outlets in Cameroon indicate that the 38-year-old Ngannou collided with a young woman while riding his motorcycle. The unidentified woman was hospitalized in Yaoundé and underwent emergency surgery but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
Sources reveal that Ngannou is understandably devastated by the incident, especially after the recent loss of his 15-month-old son, Kobe, in April 2024, due to an undiagnosed brain malformation.
On Instagram, Ngannou shared a quote from Mike Tyson, seemingly addressing the tragic event. He stated, “Life’s difficult paths can sometimes be disturbing,” and added, “As Mike Tyson said, ‘When you’re favoured by God, you’re also favoured by the devil, but remember that God is the one who brings you to the dance. The harder you fight to stay up, the harder life fights to take you down.’
Earlier this month, Ngannou expressed his ‘pain’ for the affected family, offering his ‘unwavering thoughts’ and support. “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss,” he said.
Ngannou has not fought in MMA since October 2024 when he made his PFL debut in Saudi Arabia, winning the heavyweight title against Renan Ferreira. His journey in boxing began when he faced Tyson Fury closely in a match, only to suffer a brutal knockout from Anthony Joshua later on. Ngannou departed the UFC after successfully defending his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane in January 2022, citing contract disagreements as a reason for leaving.
