Jets Make Major Commitment to Garrett Wilson
The new Jets leadership has made a significant move by securing one of their top players.
On Monday, the Jets and wide receiver Garrett Wilson reached an agreement on a four-year, $130 million contract extension, featuring $90 million guaranteed, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. A source has confirmed the details to The Post.
This deal ensures Wilson will be with the team until 2030, making him the first receiver in NFL history to achieve an average annual value of over $31 million after just three seasons.
Wilson and Sauce Gardner are essential pieces for a team looking to reshape its future after a challenging previous season. With changes in management, including general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn, the decision to keep one of their foundational players is telling.
Although Mougey did not make substantial moves in free agency, opting instead for a two-year, $40 million contract with quarterback Justin Fields, extending Wilson was a priority. This makes him the first Jets first-round pick to receive an extension after three seasons under the current financial system since 2011, boasting an average of $32.5 million, fifth-highest among NFL receivers.
Wilson’s commitment aligns with his ambition to remain a Jet for life. He expressed optimism during the offseason, saying, “I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life and we get this thing rolling.” This comes after a standout season where he recorded 101 catches for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns, showcasing his growth since being drafted tenth overall in 2022.
While there were some inconsistencies last season, including a lack of connection with Aaron Rodgers and a more subdued role following the arrival of Davante Adams, the chemistry with Fields—his former Ohio State quarterback— has reignited excitement for Wilson. He remarked on their reunion, stating, “It’s exciting. I’m still taking it in all the way.”
