Hardcore Rock Band Gel Faces Shocking Split
The hardcore rock band Gel has unexpectedly disbanded due to their guitarist Anthony Webster’s alleged “heinous acts,” which reportedly involved stealing a substantial sum from the band’s funds to cover an extensive number of OnlyFans subscriptions just weeks before a scheduled performance at Coachella.
Based in New Jersey, Gel announced their disbandment on social media in a heartfelt and extensive message to their fans on Wednesday. “Gel is no longer a band, and therefore will not be playing any of our currently scheduled upcoming shows,” the statement conveyed.
Accusations Against the Former Guitarist
The band claimed that Webster’s actions in pursuit of his personal music career inflicted “irreparable damage” on Gel and its members. “It’s affected us as human beings more than we can even attempt to explain, to the point of being completely unable to do the band anymore,” the post elaborated.
Comprising Webster, vocalist Sami Kaiser, bassist Matthew Bobko, guitarist Madison Nave, and drummer Alex Salter, the group alleged that Webster misappropriated tens of thousands of dollars after gaining exclusive access to their bank account. The funds were reportedly used for his personal expenses and an excessive number of OnlyFans purchases.
Serious Allegations and Personal Fallout
Furthermore, Webster is accused of leaking nude images of other band members online via Reddit, without adequately concealing his actions. The band expressed their inability to comprehend the motive behind the leaked photos.
Describing Webster, his former bandmates expressed frustration, labeling him as a “little f–king baby” who struggled to behave maturely. The statement reflected feelings of “absolute misery and reconsideration” towards everyone involved except those he sought to impress.
Emotional Impact and Future Plans
The band compared their experience with Webster to being in an abusive relationship, emphasizing the difficulty of letting go of something deeply cherished amidst outside pressures. They expressed, “It’s not so easy to just give something up that you care so much about… We wish that this could have all been easier, and we wish that it didn’t have to end this way.”
In closing, Gel conveyed their deepest apologies to anyone impacted personally, emphasizing their struggle to keep the band together and expressing gratitude to their fans. They reflected on their growth and relationships built over the years: “Thank you so much to our fans for always being there for us and showing us how much you care. Take care of each other, and love your friends,” they wrote.
Recent Tours and Performances Cancelled
Prior to their breakup, Gel had just concluded a tour in Australia and was scheduled to play at several prominent festivals, including a coveted slot at Coachella. They also had plans to go on a North American tour with Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox, alongside Loathe and Dying Wish. However, the upcoming tour, branded the Tsunami Sea North American Tour, will proceed without Gel after April, which includes several sold-out shows.
Additionally, Gel had several concerts lined up in July with Anxious in Delaware and the United Kingdom, along with a European tour planned where they were set to open for the Danish band Volbeat.
