UPDATE: Friday, Jan. 30, 4:20 p.m. EST: Gervonta “Tank” Davis, once on the run from federal authorities, has now been apprehended. Just two weeks before, Florida police issued an arrest warrant due to charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping related to a domestic violence incident from last fall. Authorities confirmed that Davis was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
According to Miami Gardens police, Davis was taken into custody without incident in Miami’s Design District. This followed a multi-day surveillance operation involving U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force across three counties, as reported by The Guardian.
Davis, originally from Baltimore, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday. He secured his release the next day after posting a bond of $8,500, according to ESPN. He has been ordered to avoid any contact with the alleged victim, as mentioned by TMZ.
Original story: Jan. 24, 11:40 a.m. EST:
Gervonta “Tank” Davis, a professional boxer known for his captivating presence either in arenas or on social media, has recently shifted from headlines about boxing to being a fugitive pursued by the U.S. Marshals. This situation stems from an incident that took place on October 27, 2025. A civil lawsuit alleges that Davis assaulted his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, at a Miami gentlemen’s club while she was working. Rossel accuses Davis of not only attacking her but also making threats against her life, the BBC reported.
According to the allegations, Davis confronted Rossel during her shift at Tootsies Cabaret, physically assaulting her and dragging her forcefully through various areas of the club. The violence reportedly escalated in the parking garage, away from witnesses, as he allegedly continued his assault on her.
Authorities reviewed surveillance footage that night, which corroborated Rossel’s claims. Miami Gardens Police Department executive officer Emmanuel Jeanty stated that the evidence showed Davis using force to detain Rossel against her will, as reported by ESPN. Following these developments, Davis is now classified as a fugitive.
As a result, he faced charges of false imprisonment, battery, and attempted kidnapping, leading to a warrant for his arrest. The Miami Gardens Police Department expressed their commitment to addressing domestic violence issues. Davis was stripped of his WBA lightweight title upon the issuance of the warrant, though he remains a champion in recess due to the ongoing legal matters. His allegations also caused the last-minute cancellation of a scheduled exhibition match against Jake Paul.
If convicted and sentenced on all counts, Davis could face up to 21 years in a Florida state prison, particularly given his prior arrests on battery charges and a hit-and-run case in 2023.
