Colleen Hoover is once again showcasing her box office success.
Universal’s romantic film “Reminders of Him,” based on Hoover’s latest best-seller, debuted impressively with $18.2 million from 3,402 theaters in North America. This exceeded initial expectations of $10 million to $12 million. The film also garnered $10 million from 56 international markets, totaling $28.2 million against a budget of $25 million.
Hoover co-wrote the script for “Reminders of Him,” which tells the story of a single mother returning home after spending five years in prison due to a tragic incident. Audience reactions were varied, resulting in a “B” grade on CinemaScore exit polls.
This film continues Hoover’s streak after successes like 2024’s “It Ends With Us” and 2025’s “Regretting You,” emphasizing the demand for narratives centered on women. Notably, women made up 80% of the opening weekend audience for “Reminders of Him.” Next, Hoover’s adaptation of “Verity,” featuring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway, is scheduled for an October release from Amazon MGM.
“Hollywood isn’t producing enough adult romance dramas,” stated analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. “The audience is present, but the content is lacking. Colleen Hoover’s adaptations are filling this gap.”
“Reminders of Him” opened at No. 2, following Disney and Pixar’s animated film “Hoppers,” which took the top spot again with $28.5 million in its second week, bringing its domestic total to $86 million. This resurgence comes as Pixar breaks a slump with a successful sequel, although “Hoppers” needs to sustain its box office performance to justify its $150 million budget.
In contrast, director Maggie Gyllenhaal’s R-rated horror film “The Bride!” suffered in its second week, earning only $2.1 million and dropping to No. 6. Following negative reviews and poor audience scores, its sales plummeted 70% from its lackluster debut. The film has accumulated $11.3 million domestically and $21 million worldwide, turning it into a significant financial disappointment for Warner Bros.
