Preview of “Opry 100: A Live Celebration”
As “Opry 100: A Live Celebration” prepares to air tonight, producers are providing a sneak peek of the three-hour special. While the show won’t feature quite a hundred performers to honor the Grand Ole Opry‘s centennial, it will likely come close by the end of the broadcast. The event will be streamed live from 8-11 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock.
Collaboration with Silent House
Silent House, known for producing many major tours like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, is collaborating with the Opry on the event. Executive producers Baz Halpin, Mark Bracco, and Linda Gierahn—who recently won Emmys for “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love”—are leading “Opry 100” alongside R.A. Clark and Steve Buchanan. Gierahn and Bracco took a break from rehearsals to share insights about what music fans can anticipate.
A Broad Audience Appeal
Bracco emphasized that the show is not just aimed at country music enthusiasts, stating, “Many of the songs featured are integral to the American Songbook and achieved significant crossover success.” He explained that the broad range of music will resonate with all music lovers, making it an inclusive experience. “Even if you don’t classify yourself as a country fan, there’s plenty here you’ll recognize and enjoy,” he added.
Diverse Performances
While some performances were announced before the Wednesday night show, a total of over 20 acts will take the stage. Highlights include Reba McEntire honoring Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood paying tribute to George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Other notable tributes will feature artists like Jelly Roll, Ashley McBride, Carly Pearce, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, and Kelsea Ballerini, with the legends they’re honoring attending as well.
Tributes and Special Guests
The event will include tributes to the roots of country and gospel with contributions from the War and Treaty, alongside Amy Grant and other special guests. The bluegrass segment will be performed by Alison Krauss and Union Station, ensuring representation across generations and honoring both deceased and living legends in country music.
Personal and Original Performances
Not every piece will be a cover or duo. Eric Church will perform an original song that holds personal significance for him and his connection to the Opry. “It’s very emotional and special,” Bracco described. Some performers, like Keith Urban and Lainey Wilson, will showcase both tributes and their own hits, with Krauss appearing multiple times in various segments.
In Memoriam and Production Details
Vince Gill will lead a tribute for the In Memoriam section, performing “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” The show will include live segments from the Opry House and pre-recorded parts from the Ryman Auditorium, the Opry’s historic venue prior to the 1970s. This will allow for smoother transitions between performances while celebrating both iconic locations. With various visual elements, each act will have a unique presentation to enhance the storytelling of the performances.
Heartfelt Celebration of Legacy
Gierahn expressed enthusiasm for being involved in a project that honors the rich history of the Opry and the artists who have graced its stage over the decades. “It’s a heartfelt celebration, encompassing not just the performers but all those who have supported the Opry’s legacy,” she shared, emphasizing the joy and love infused in the show.
