FRIDAY PM: Disney/Pixar’s new animated feature, Hoppers, is projected to earn around $30M in its second weekend, a drop of 34%. Meanwhile, Universal’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, Reminders of Him, is resonating well with female audiences, potentially opening to $18M or even more.
By the end of the weekend, Hoppers is expected to have a domestic total of $88.3M, significantly surpassing the Onward movie’s ten-day total of $61.5M, which was impacted by theater closures during the pandemic.
Similar to Twisters, Universal has effectively targeted the Heartland in promoting Reminders of Him. The studio launched a Heartland Tour that began in Chicago, featuring a screening moderated by Good Day Chicago’s Jake Stakes, during which star Tyriq Withers got to reconnect with his family. The tour included exclusive screenings, Q&As, and promotional events in Kansas City and Dallas. Reports indicate Texas audiences showed strong interest.
As for reviews, Reminders of Him has received the best ratings among Hoover’s adaptations with a 60% fresh score, outperforming It Ends With Us (55%) and Paramount’s Regretting You (29%). Currently, the film’s audience score on Rotten Tomatoes stands at 88%, slightly ahead of the 87% for It Ends With Us and 84% for Regretting You.
The film had a Friday opening of $7.6M across 3,402 locations. RelishMix reports that its social media presence reaches 349M across platforms like TikTok, YouTube, X, Instagram, and Facebook, surpassing It Ends With Us (337.4M). YouTube views are notably at 94.6M compared to It Ends With Us’s 56M at a similar opening stage, although Blake Lively’s film performed better on Instagram with 157.1M views versus 117M.
RelishMix comments on the positive word-of-mouth for Reminders of Him, highlighting that viewers are responding emotionally, sharing confessions about repeat viewings, and expressing loyalty to the book. The trailer is received as a tear-jerker, and comparisons are drawn with Nicholas Sparks’ works. Positive remarks center around the music and emotionally impactful moments that aim to evoke tears.
Furthermore, while It Ends With Us is considered Hoover’s most acclaimed novel, Reminders of Him has surpassed Regretting You in popularity, with over six million copies sold in the U.S. and translations in 45 languages. Another title to watch this weekend is A24’s horror movie undertone, which is forecasted to earn between $8.5M and $10.5M at 2,570 locations, high expectations bolstered by its release on Friday the 13th.
