Iconic ’90s Stars Reunite for Slasher Sequel
It’s been 28 years since the slasher film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” premiered. Recently, the cast of the sequel made an appearance at its premiere at LA’s United Theater on Broadway.
The event featured new faces like Madelyn Cline, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Chase Sui Wonders, alongside some nostalgic favorites.
Freddie Prinze Jr., reprising his role as Ray Bronson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, who portrayed Helen Shivers, made it a romantic evening.
The original film, penned by Kevin Williamson, follows four friends who accidentally kill a man and are later pursued by a hook-wielding killer. Alongside Gellar and Prinze Jr., the cast included Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Philippe, whose character also meets a grim fate.
Plot of the Sequel
The upcoming film, slated for release by Sony Pictures, revolves around five friends who unintentionally cause a fatal car accident. Instead of facing the consequences, they cover it up, only to be haunted a year later by someone who knows the truth and is hell-bent on revenge.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, although not part of the film, attended the premiere to support her husband, dressed in an elegant strapless dress. Freddie Prinze Jr. matched her vibe in a navy blue suit.
Fan Reactions and Cast Memories
Both stars, having first met on the set of the original movie, look back on their history, with Gellar’s friend sharing a nostalgic Instagram post highlighting their red carpet appearances from 1997 and 2025.
Jennifer Love Hewitt also dazzled the crowd in a stunning black dress, celebrating her return to the franchise alongside Prinze Jr. for the sequel.
Reflecting on the Past
Gellar has recently discussed her non-involvement in the reboot, humorously stating, “I am dead,” while also playing a supportive role behind the scenes. Prinze Jr. expressed excitement about reuniting with Hewitt, describing the experience akin to a high school reunion.
As they prepare for the film’s release, anticipation builds. Hewitt conveyed her initial nerves about returning but felt honored to be asked back, recognizing the significance of the franchise to both her career and the fans.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is scheduled to hit theaters this Friday.
