Dear Hunters,
With the arrival of Update 2.3, we’ve implemented various balance adjustments to equipment, Traits, and other elements. These adjustments were inspired by player feedback and aim to enhance overall gameplay balance while promoting greater diversity in gaming experiences. We’ve previously discussed these balance changes in earlier blogs, but we want to provide a comprehensive overview of what you can expect in Update 2.3.
Equipment Adjustments:
- The Krag will see a slight reduction in extra ammo capacity from 12 to 10, with its cost increasing to 450 Hunt Dollars. This change is intended to inspire more variety in arsenals during matches. Alongside this, the Berthier and Mosin Obrez have been rebalanced, making the Berthier the most powerful Carbine and the base Obrez the least powerful. Our goal is to position these Carbines as viable alternatives to full-size, Long Ammo bolt-action rifles like the Krag, Lebel, and Mosin Nagant.
- In addition, the Uppercut will be priced lower, dropping to 310 Hunt Dollars, reflecting its strength as a widely used handgun and sidearm in the game. Due to recent nerfs in ballistics, damage, and ammo capacity, we believe the price no longer matched its capabilities. The Haymaker has also been reduced from 370 to 279 Hunt Dollars for similar reasons.
- It will now take three Bear Traps to eliminate an enemy Hunter, discouraging players from using a single Tool slot for quick kills. We encourage players to utilize additional traps found in the game world or equip the Frontiersman Trait to expand their carrying capacity. Players are also encouraged to creatively employ various traps and mechanics, such as explosive barrels, to inflict damage.
- Melee tools will now deal more damage against Boss and Wild Targets, and more melee weapons will spawn in proximity to Boss Target lairs. Players will again receive notable damage from retrieving projectiles from defeated monsters and Hunters, rewarding those brave enough to collect their blades, Bolts, and Arrows mid-combat. The Berserker Trait will still double the damage inflicted in this scenario, while the Blademancer Trait will no longer grant any pull-out damage when retrieving items, as the benefit of quick retrieval provided sufficient advantage.
- The Vetterli’s rate-of-fire has improved when using Iron Eye Trait in ADS, whereas the Centennial’s rate-of-fire has been slightly decreased. This rebalancing will now make the Vetterli more effective with this Trait, where the Centennial was previously faster. Players can now also disarm and retrieve Dark Dynamite Satchels, maintaining them in their inventory if there’s available space. We’ve also shortened the duration of Stamina and Regeneration Shots.
Trait Modifications:
Here are some updates regarding Trait adjustments:
- The Lightfoot Trait will no longer enable silent crouching for solo Hunters, responding to community feedback that this ability undermined gameplay by eliminating the sound of footsteps, which are crucial for detecting nearby players. We plan to explore other enhancements for solo players in the future if necessary.
- The Surefoot Trait will lose its faster crouch speed and its cost will rise to 6 Upgrade Points. The Fast Fingers Trait has been added to the Martini-Henry IC1 and Maynard Sniper weapon families, with the Martini-Henry benefiting more significantly due to its quick reload capability. The Bolt Thrower Trait will also apply to the Bomb Lance and Bomb Launcher following player requests for further specialization options. The Conduit Trait will now reward solo Hunters with double stamina and progress through two Clue steps with a single interaction, enhancing the previous iteration.
- The pricing for some Traits has also been adjusted: Surefoot increased from 4 Upgrade Points to 6, Greyhound decreased from 5 Upgrade Points to 2, and Determination down from 4 Upgrade Points to 1.
Fixes and Updates:
We’ve focused on rectifying several ongoing bugs, including:
- Refactoring the poison damage system to resolve issues with effects not disappearing correctly.
- Hanging chains and sound traps will no longer obstruct attacks during combat, and Concertina wire will not inflict damage through walls and ceilings. While some wires may still be visual through certain barriers, they should no longer deal damage when blocked.
Additionally, our Weekly Challenges will be randomized each week to minimize the likelihood of certain weapons dominating for extended periods, thus promoting more varied gameplay. Players will still need to complete the same challenges, but the order will differ for each player.
We’re thrilled to introduce Update 2.3 on March 26th, 2025. This year marks significant progress for us in terms of performance updates and quality-of-life improvements, and this is just the beginning. We hope you enjoy the new Event and updates!
Best regards,
Your Hunt: Showdown 1896 team
