Chivu Reflects on Inter’s Struggles Against Bodo/Glimt
Cristian Chivu noted that Bodo/Glimt displayed greater energy than Inter, acknowledging their single focus on the Champions League while admitting that the Nerazzurri fell short of competitiveness in Europe.
Following the 3-1 defeat in the first leg in Norway, Inter faced an uphill battle, and there were no excuses after a 2-1 home loss at San Siro.
With key players Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu absent, Inter struggled to make an impact in attack despite having several opportunities. A crucial error from Manuel Akanji allowed Jens-Petter Hauge to score the first goal, followed by a second from Hakon Evjen, with Alessandro Bastoni’s effort from a corner proving too late.
Chivu Feels Inter Stretched Thin
Chivu stated, “We gave it everything from the start,” expressing that they faced a well-organized opponent defending with a compact block. He recognized that failing to score first gave Bodo/Glimt crucial psychological comfort.
Admitting disappointment, Chivu observed, “Unfortunately, we were up against a side with much more energy, very well-organized, and they executed their game plan successfully.” He praised Bodo/Glimt for their performance, acknowledging their deserving advance in the tournament.
Looking Ahead
While Inter had reached the Champions League Final twice in three years under Simone Inzaghi, this early exit was a significant setback. Chivu lamented that despite good early performances in the tournament, the team had dropped points at critical moments.
As they head into domestic competitions with Serie A and the Coppa Italia, Chivu emphasized the need to forward, recognizing that Bodo/Glimt’s focused preparation made a difference. He concluded that the disappointment was palpable, but they must now shift their focus back to league goals.
