Alan Shearer Endorses Harry Kane as a Perfect Fit for Liverpool
Alan Shearer has proposed that Liverpool should consider signing Harry Kane to address their issues with strikers. While the team hasn’t been lacking in goals this season, they have been missing a dependable number nine due to Darwin Nunez’s inconsistent performance.
Kane, the England captain at 31, has continued to excel at Bayern Munich, netting 32 goals in 37 appearances this season. Although he appears set to win his first trophy in the Bundesliga, he has been tentatively linked with a potential return to the Premier League. Shearer believes that a move to Liverpool would be advantageous for both Kane and the club.
“It’s clear that Liverpool will seek a center-forward in the summer, and Harry Kane would be an outstanding choice for them, given the club’s stature and his goal-scoring ability,” Shearer told Betfair. “Kane will have choices, whether he opts to remain in Germany or return to the Premier League.”
Regarding the potential of Kane breaking his scoring record, Shearer stated: “If Kane returns to the Premier League, he stands a strong chance of surpassing my record. I’ve always been a fan of his, and he truly deserves it.”
Shearer, who retired as the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer with 260 goals in 2006, noted that while Kane has the potential to break that record—having already netted 213 league goals before moving to Bayern in 2023—Liverpool may seek a new striker this summer following Nunez’s struggles, who has only scored seven goals in 40 matches this season.
Kane has a contract with Bayern until 2027, but the allure of winning Premier League titles and potentially breaking Shearer’s record could lure him back. Despite turning 32 this summer, Shearer insists that Kane can still score and will remain a prolific forward if given the right opportunities.
