While I’m not a chronometry expert, I can confidently say that January 2026 felt like it lasted longer than 31 days—at least 84, perhaps? Months without baseball tend to drag, and this one particularly felt slow, didn’t it?
However, today is February 1, and I’m thrilled to announce: we’ve made it to February.
January wasn’t devoid of activity—there was Hot Stove excitement, Hall of Fame announcements, and various fan events. But February is when baseball truly begins to pick up. After a long offseason spanning November, December, and January, we’re almost there. Baseball is nearly back!
And I genuinely mean almost. Baseball is set to return this month, the shortest of the year. With February kicking off, we will soon have baseball activities and eventually actual games. Mark your calendar, because over the next six weeks, a lot is going to happen. Here’s a look at important upcoming dates.
Feb. 10-13: Pitchers and Catchers Report
The idea of players “reporting” to spring training might feel outdated; most have been training year-round, with many already at team facilities. However, witnessing them train in uniform, running drills, and enjoying the sounds and smells of baseball is an experience that reassures fans that the season is imminent.
Feb. 20: Grapefruit and Cactus League Games Begin
If you check the MLB.com schedule now, you will find real baseball games with times and broadcast details. The first game is on February 20 in Sarasota, Florida, featuring the Orioles and Yankees. That’s just 19 days away!
March 4-17: World Baseball Classic
Exhibition games kick off on March 3, with pool play starting March 4 in Tokyo. Team USA’s first match will be against Brazil on March 6, culminating in a final in Miami on March 17, providing another exciting tournament for fans.
March 25: Yankees-Giants Season Opener
The 2026 season kicks off earlier than usual, starting with a Yankees vs. Giants game. This will be an intriguing matchup, especially for Aaron Judge as he returns to California to face a team he nearly signed with previously.
February is here, and before you know it, baseball will be back in full swing!
