Recent Oscar winners Kieran Culkin and Mikey Madison, alongside nominees Ariana Grande, Fernanda Torres, Sebastian Stan, and Jeremy Strong, are part of the 534 esteemed individuals invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This selection honors their remarkable contributions to filmmaking, showcasing a rich array of talent, viewpoints, and geographical origins.
Should all invited candidates accept, the Academy’s membership will increase to 11,120, comprising 10,143 voting members. The new invitees come from 60 different countries and territories, enhancing the Academy’s global reach.
“We are excited to welcome this prestigious group of artists, technologists, and industry professionals into the Academy,” stated Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang. “This year’s cohort reflects the diverse and international nature of today’s film community, and their inclusion will further enrich our mission.”
In line with the Academy’s commitment to diversity and inclusion:
- 41% of the 2025 invitees are women
- 45% belong to underrepresented racial or ethnic groups
- 55% are international members, enhancing the Academy’s global presence
Among the new members, there are 91 Oscar nominees, 26 winners, and three honorees of Scientific and Technical Awards. Twelve individuals have been invited to join multiple branches and will choose one upon acceptance.
Notably, Karla Sofía Gascón, the first openly trans actor nominated for her role in “Emilia Pérez,” was not included among the Oscar nominee invitees. She recently faced backlash for controversial statements made on her social media.
