Weekend Practice Sessions and Race Highlights
In the weekend’s practice sessions, Herlings claimed the top time during the morning Warm-Up, with Calvin Vlaanderen finishing second for the newly formed Red Bull Ducati Factory MX Team. Following his victory in the Qualifying Race, Tom Vialle donned the red plate, marking his first win in a Grand Prix since July 2022.
First MXGP Race Overview
The Honda HRC Petronas duo of Vialle and Herlings surged into the first corner at the front of the MXGP race, with Herlings securing a rare Fox Holeshot Award ahead of Vialle. However, Andrea Adamo managed to squeeze his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing bike between them in the initial laps.
Crashes and Key Performances
Unfortunately, Venrooy KTM Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini and his fellow Italian teammate Alberto Forato from Fantic Factory Racing MXGP crashed out during the first lap. Meanwhile, Andrea Bonacorsi got off to a strong start for Red Bull Ducati, leading Febvre and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Pauls Jonass.
Mid-Race Developments
Starting outside the top five, Lucas Coenen of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing quickly advanced to fifth place by the end of the first lap. Vialle executed a pass on Adamo and took the lead on lap four, leaving a significant impact on the race.
Race Final Results
By lap eight, both Febvre and Coenen overtook Adamo, who ultimately fell to 11th place. Bonacorsi crashed on lap five, while Jonass secured a strong fifth-place finish. Vialle finished in a commendable second place, while Herlings celebrated his first race win with Honda by overtaking Vialle and sealing a spectacular victory.
Race Two Highlights
The second race was marred by disruption when Forato jumped the start gate, leading to a red flag. Febvre managed an early lead but was called back, resulting in a complete restart. This time, Maxime Renaux took the Fox Holeshot Award, with Vialle moving up behind him after a collision caused Jonass to crash.
Driver Insights and Championship Outlook
As the race progressed, Vialle briefly stalled, allowing Herlings to capitalize and move up, eventually catching Febvre. Despite a strong challenge, Herlings executed a remarkable cutback move, evening the Championship points with Febvre. The standings heading into Spain see Herlings sporting the red plate for the first time since October 2021.
